Anne-Marie Penny

Anne-Marie has worked in road safety for over two decades. She was involved in a life-threatening motorbike crash in 1995 and her passion to reduce road crash casualties and the physical and mental trauma that results, stems from this experience.

Following 14 years in the private sector working in project management and customer delivery, Anne-Marie joined Kent County Council’s road safety team where she was the Road Safety Development Manager and led on motorcycle safety before moving on to manage the Kent and Medway Safety Camera Partnership.

In previous roles she has managed motorcycle casualty reduction, campaign development, and has been the partnership manager for safety cameras in the South-East of England.

She holds an HND in Accident and Safety Management which covered, amongst other things, road safety approaches to education, engineering, and enforcement, advertising and marketing, crash analysis, and collision investigation. She has received Prince Michael International Road Safety Awards for the Save 478 Lives casualty reduction programme, the Driving Business – Safely partnership initiative in Kent County Council, and for the Driving for Better Business Programme in National Highways

She has been a trustee of the Eastern Alliance of Safe and Sustainable Transport facilitating cross-border projects on sustainable transport and road safety and hosted the FIA International Road Safety Scholarship in Kent for three years. Currently Anne-Marie sits on the Council of Management for the Association for Road Risk Management.

Working for National Highways since 2017, Anne-Marie leads the Driving for Better Business Programme aimed at raising the standard of work-related road risk management and is the primary contact for the Roads Policing Review work on motorcycling.

Her work in Road Safety has clearly rubbed off onto her children. Her son works for the South East Coast Ambulance Service and her daughter is a Forensic Scientist. Unfortunately, her dog and cat have absolutely no road sense at all!
