Driver compliance strategies on the Strategic Road Network

Speaker: Jamie Hassall, Head of Compliance at National Highways

National Highways has a host of cutting edge technologies at its disposal, both already implemented and in development, to improve safety on the Strategic Road Network - technologies like the new camera vans fitted with AI (artificial Intelligence) detection equipment to identify driving offences such as mobile phone use or not wearing a seatbelt.

In a UK-first trial of this new safety technology, it recognised motorists holding mobile phones or driving without seatbelts every six minutes. The importance of this new technology to road safety can't be ignored after it was announced late last year that the proportion of car occupants killed in crashes who were not wearing a seatbelt has reached the highest level on record.

Jamie's talk looks at how the technology works, and the results from the trials that have been conducted around the country over the last few months.

Jamie also looks at some of the other technologies National Highways is currently implementing and developing for the future, in order to improve driver behaviour.
